PRESS RELEASE

This Is America "The Stitching" Wearable Arts Fashion Show Saturday, August 15 7-10PM

On August 15, 2020, 7 p.m., 5 Points Art Gallery & Studios will host its first, and long-planned, wearable arts fashion show, entitled, This Is America “The Stitching”, a spin-off to its current This Is America group visual arts exhibition. Pivoting from an in-person runway show due to COVID-19, This Is America “The Stitching” will now be exhibited, safely, virtually. The virtual fashion show will feature over 30 original designs by 20 artists of color, boldly demonstrating their stitching together of America and ingenuity, as they creatively convert 2-D visual arts, found objects and more into wearable couture. From unique accessories to full costume, both collaboratively and independently created, the breadth of works will surely be impressive. Broadcasting via platforms, Zoom and Twitch, the pre-recorded fashion show will also include artist snapshots, model confessions, show-concurrent online purchase access, highlights from the visual arts exhibition, and live MCing.

Featured Artists: Adjua Nsoroma, Ammar Nsoroma, Bennie C. Higgins, Darrel M. Payne, Erik Salgado, Fatima Laster, Gannon Crutcher, Kierston Ghaznavi, Kiki Jia Qi Zhen, Ladetria Warren of Twisted Rose Metal, Manny Vibes, Martina Patterson, Marvin Tate, Muneer Bahauddeen, Nicole Brown of Ruth Nathan's, Pamela Graham of Nandi Collection, Rhonda Gatlin-Hayes, Sharon Kerry-Harlan, Sheila Miller of Shepats Designs, and Sonji Hunt.
